DQ Explorer from Uniserv optimizes data quality via analysis & profiling

DQ Explorer, the new data profiling solution, provides efficient and transparent analysis of company data including reporting and information for data optimization

Pforzheim, September 2008. Data of low quality is all-pervasive. Incorrect article numbers, missing values, different spellings and abbreviations, incorrect customer data, etc. reduce data quality and lead to negative business consequences. The garbage in, garbage out principle takes effect: Errors in the data cause wrong decisions, high costs and unreliable processes or adversely affect the observance of compliance requirements.

Conventional manual analyses for securing data quality are time-consuming and imprecise, because they are usually based on subjectivity and assumptions and often only expected defects and inconsistencies are searched for. Against this background, the Pforzheim-based Uniserv GmbH for Data Quality Solutions now offers the DQ Explorer, a completely new interactive data profiling and analysis system. The software is ideally suitable for taking stock of customer and business data. In this respect, the DQ Explorer is functionally integrated in a complete and continuous data quality cycle of profiling & analysis, data cleansing, firewall and monitoring. In this way, decision-makers as well as data analysts, software developers and database administrators obtain an accurate and detailed overview of the state of the data stored in the company at a glance at any time - with a time saving of up to 90 percent in comparison with conventional methods.

Automated data analysis and efficient problem management
With the DQ Explorer, data analysis has never been easier. Equipped with a variety of functions, the Uniserv DQ Explorer automatically supplies a high-speed, accurate and detailed overview of the current data state in a few steps. The software provides other functions for starting and tracking suitable projects and avoiding subsequent conflicts and correction work, so that the knowledge obtained from the analysis can be efficiently used to improve the data quality. In this connection, the identified problems can be e.g. assigned to the respective personnel via the innovative e-mail alert option and the progress monitored.

Use of the DQ Explorer means that the procedure practiced up to now, in which analysis projects have to pass through a large number of toolsets, is a thing of the past. The DQ Explorer manages these different steps integrated in a single application: By means of the intuitively designed user interface, the users can quickly and simply determine the actual state of the data and any existing errors, anomalies and inconsistencies in an automated source data analysis. This can take place before transfer to other systems, as part of compliance and business intelligence (BI) initiatives or also in migration, balanced scorecard or data warehouse projects. In this respect, the profiling tool automatically supplies information for each attribute such as values and patterns as well as their frequency, percentage of null values, percentage of unambiguous values, minimum and maximum, derived data type or also a suspicion of outliers. Conspicuous and questionable values can be immediately detected and the data records concerned displayed by mouse click; join checks between tables from different data sources also are possible.

The DQ Explorer is available in three different versions: a Workstation Version for analysis projects with small quantities of data, an Entry Server for cooperative analysis projects up to medium-sized quantities of data and an Advanced Server for large cooperative analysis projects with a large number of employees and large quantities of data.
