The Pforzheim software specialist Uniserv is the first provider of address management solutions to offer own proprietary UNIX products using the brand new AS/400 feature PASE (Portable Application Solutions Environment) for direct installation on the AS/400. Configurations that were necessary until now in the form of external servers as well as internal (integrated netfinity servers) can be dropped. AS/400 PASE is a component integrated into the operating system OS/400, which provides a subset of AIX runtime functionalities. It utilizes the capability of the AS/400 processor to switch between the AS/400 and the UNIX runtime mode. Applications such as mail and post run native on the AS/400 and in doing so utilize the file system, the security mechanisms and the DB2 universal database for AS/400. The balance of the results: good to very good performance capabilities.

Users have the advantage that the applications are displayed as AS/400 applications. For the end-user no knowledge of UNIX is required. Therefore the integration of company-critical applications is improved, such as address management in the context of e-commerce or direct mailing activities.
